Police chase driver in suspected stolen vehicle

Police are searching for a suspect who was driving recklessly in the San Fernando Valley area Thursday night.

The driver, in a red Toyota Prius, is believed to be driving a stolen vehicle.

The suspect was seen reaching speeds of 60-70 miles per hour on public roads, running red lights and driving on the wrong side of the road.

At one point, the suspect turned into a dead-end side street. With nowhere to go, the driver slammed into a metal fence, shattering the windshield and leaving the vehicle with extensive damage to the front and driver’s side.

The suspect later entered the highway, narrowly avoiding multiple vehicles as he weaved through traffic and reached speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour.

The chase began around 7:45 p.m., with the driver still speeding and several San Fernando police units closely following him.

According to reports, the vehicle was involved in a pursuit by Burbank police earlier that day, during which the vehicle was lost.
